Is the image compressor free?

Yes. It is free to use, with no account to create and nothing to install.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Every image is compressed in your own browser, by codecs compiled to WebAssembly and running in Web Workers on your device. Your files never leave it, and nothing is stored on a server.

Which formats can it compress and convert to?

WebP, JPEG, PNG and AVIF. JPEG uses MozJPEG, PNG uses OxiPNG with colour quantisation, and SVG files are optimised with SVGO and stay SVG. Animated GIFs have their own compressor that keeps every frame.

Which image format is best for a website?

For most photos and graphics, WebP: it is much smaller than JPEG or PNG at the same quality, and every current browser supports it. AVIF is often smaller again but slower to encode. Keep PNG for flat graphics that need to stay lossless, and JPEG for systems that only accept JPEG.

Will compressing my images make them look worse?

Not if you leave Smart quality on: it looks for the smallest file that still looks the same as the original. You can set the quality by hand instead, and compare the before and after side by side before you download.

Can I compress many images at once?

Yes. Add as many files as you like in one go. They are processed in parallel, and you can download them all together as a ZIP.

Can I resize, crop or rotate an image too?

Yes. Resize, crop and rotate an image before you export it, in the same place you compress it.

How do I make an animated GIF smaller?

Use the GIF compressor . It runs gifsicle in your browser to shrink the file and keeps the animation intact, and like the image compressor it uploads nothing.

# Image Compressor

Compress and convert images to WebP, JPEG, PNG and AVIF, optimise SVGs and shrink animated GIFs. It runs in your browser, so nothing is ever uploaded.

## What it does

Compresses and converts images to WebP, JPEG, PNG and AVIF, optimises SVG files and shrinks animated GIFs. Add many files at once and download them together as a ZIP.

## How it works

Everything runs in your browser with WebAssembly codecs, so no file is uploaded and nothing is stored. Files are cleared automatically after an hour.

## Options

Smart quality finds the smallest file that still looks the same. You can also set quality by hand, resize, crop and rotate, and compare before and after.

## Is the image compressor free?

Yes. It is free to use, with no account to create and nothing to install.
