Sanity CMS websites

Structured content done properly: Sanity as the editorial backend, real-time collaboration for your team, and a front end in code you fully own. The CMS is a component of your site, never the platform it depends on.

[ Who it's for ]

Editorial teams that want a backend nobody has to run.

Sanity fits content operations that want the benefits of structured content - one source of truth, reusable everywhere, queryable like data - with a hosted backend your team never maintains. Real-time collaboration is genuinely first-class: multiple editors in the same document, presence, live preview. If your marketing site shares content with other surfaces, product, docs, apps, Sanity's everything-is-structured model earns its keep.

The honest counter-cases: a small marketing team shipping pages does not need this, and [Agentic websites] is the simpler system to own. A team that wants the CMS itself on its own infrastructure wants Strapi CMS websites.

The umbrella page, Headless CMS websites, carries the full how-to-choose conversation.

[ What’s included ]

Sanity as a component.
Your repository as the ground.

There is a way of building on Sanity where the whole site becomes an extension of someone’s proprietary system, and leaving means starting over. We build the other way.

  • The site in your repository.

The front end, the schemas and the tooling live in your GitHub repository. Sanity stores the content; your repo defines the site. If you ever change CMS, the site survives the move.

  • Portable content by design.

Structured content, exportable at any time, with the content models documented in your repository rather than locked in anyone’s head.

  • The full foundation.

The guardrails, the asset pipeline and Split testing from day one: the same rules every Signal Studio build runs on, whatever edits the content.

  • The agent layer on top.

Editorial content flows through Sanity Studio; the site itself still changes by plain-language brief to your agent, with a preview before anything ships.

  • The machine layer.

Structured data, schemas, llms.txt and a clean sitemap, fed by the same structured content, so the AI systems answering your buyers can read and cite what your site says.

  • Your editors, trained.

In a Studio configured for your operation: roles, workflows and live preview set up properly, and the team shown how to run it with confidence.

  1. Discovery
  2. Transform
  3. Run & grow

[ Proof ]

The architecture is proven. The Sanity case study is next.

We run the owned-code-plus-headless-CMS combination in production today. Our first Sanity build will be documented here the way we document everything: numbers measured, quote verbatim, client approved.

  • [ 01/ Pacific Health ]

A refreshed brand, website and ordering app.

A brand unchanged since the early 90s, refreshed from the logo to the catalogue covers, and a redesigned website and ordering app for retailers and practitioners.

The Pacific Health home page over a misty forest: "Your total natural health supplier."

Sanity or Strapi?

Sanity when you want a hosted backend, real-time collaboration, and structured content shared across surfaces. Strapi when you want the CMS itself self-hosted on infrastructure you control. Both stay components behind code you own; the roadmap that comes out of Discovery makes the call for your team, with the reasoning attached.

If Sanity hosts the content, do we still own our site?

Yes, and the architecture is what makes that true. The site lives in your repository under your name: its code, schemas, design system and deployment. Sanity holds the content, which is structured and exportable at any time. Compare that with a platform site, where leaving means rebuilding: here, changing CMS is a component swap, not a divorce from your own website.

We are already on Sanity with another setup. Can you take it over?

Usually, yes. Often the content model is fine and what needs replacing is everything around it: the front end, the operations, the machine layer. Discovery reads what you have and maps the path, whether that is keep, rebuild or rehome, with the reasoning attached.

Can our marketers use it without developers?

Yes. Sanity Studio is a genuinely good editing experience, and we configure it for your team: roles, workflows, live preview. Site-level changes like new pages, sections and campaigns go through the agent workflow with a preview and your approval, so nobody needs a developer for the everyday.

What does it cost to run?

Sanity's own plan, which scales with your team and usage, plus hosting for a front end you control. That is the trade headless makes, and in the roadmap we put it next to what you stop paying (platform rent, per-seat editing, the developer queue) so the arithmetic decides.
